The Most Common Moving Mistakes
A time of major changes like the relocation period is definitely a great test for one's organizational skills, and inevitably mistakes can definitely disturb the right course of events. Careful planning of the move is the best way to ensure that things go just fine, but even so, faulty situations cannot be avoided all the time.
Combined packing is the first mistake you can make; you cannot put the TV set together with the table on which it is placed, and this is probably the “dumbest” example we can give. It may seem easy to pack things from one room and then move to the next, and people often choose this strategy because it saves them from all the house mess without realizing that they'll make a mess when unpacking.
When packing clothes, plastic sacks are often considered an option as they occupy less space in the moving truck and plenty of items can be pressed in. Yet, when you get to unpack, most of the clothes will need washing and ironing again, even if they were clean in the first place. Cardboard boxes, pegs and plastic covers are the best to use for moving apparel items.
If you've got small children, you should consider leaving them with a grandma or someone trustworthy during the move. If they remain in the house while you are packing and loading things, they will not be properly looked after, and chances are they might injure themselves or cause trouble. Pets require special care too the best solution would be to leave them at some friends' or at an animal shelter for a day or two before the new home is ready to receive them.
Do not keep all your money on the credit card or in the bank account: the relocation period is the time when you'll need a cash reserve for unpredicted situations. Furthermore, leave some clothes and essential items unpacked for your personal toilet and comfort during the move; hand packs are usually ideal for such cases.
One other common mistake people make when relocating is leaving the security system on. You should even switch off the night lights so as to prevent any further energy consume. As soon as the house will be taken over by the new owners, they will turn the system on, but until then it would be a waste to let the bulbs burn all night long.
