Move packing tips – How to make a stressful move with few breakages

Moving is very stressful and one the major problems and main concerns of many people when booking UK movers is whether their belongings are going to arrive in one piece or not. Professional UK moving companies of course will do everything possible to ensure this happens, however there is also much you are able to do yourself to help keep items as safe as possible.

Planning packing well ahead of time can go a long way to a less stressful move. If you leave everything until the very last minute then it will make life a lot harder for you. Make a note of everything that you will need for your packing and start collecting these well ahead of time. Do not forget that you will need different types of materials for packing for different items. Some of the many packing materials could include newspaper, tissue paper, bubble wrap, tubes for posters and large cartons for larger items, along with boxes in general.

You need to pack as many items that are considered not to be essential well before the date of your move. This can include clothes that are not seasonal and are not going to be worn it can also include items hidden away in cupboards that you very rarely use. If you have packed in double sided boxes then these can be stored on top of the other to minimize the space that your boxes take up.

When you have packed the boxes ensure that you have secured them with strong tape and then make sure that you label them very carefully. It is helpful when labelling boxes to ensure that you put on the tape the type of items that are in the boxes and also what room they were taken from. When it comes to unpacking in your new home this makes the job a whole lot easier.

As you want to make sure that your fragile items are kept safe you need to label them clearly as being fragile and also take great care when packing the items. Here you can use soft tissue paper that is non porous then secure them in bubble wrap, preferably un-popped.

It is essential that items such as refrigerators and freezers are thoroughly defrosted well before the moving date. They also need to be very dry inside so after they have defrosted you need to wipe them out thoroughly. You are able to buy special crates to pack such items in and of course before packing the doors will need to be secured with strong tape.

When packing you should use this time to get rid of as much junk as possible. It can be surprising how much you have accumulated over the years and rather that take all of this with you to clutter up your new home, now could be the time to get rid of it. If you have many nearly new items you could have a garage sale or take them to a car boot sale or give them to a charity shop.
